PUPPY QUIZ BY FENZI DOG SPORTS ACADEMY
!
Take the quiz and click submit. I'll then send you the answers and you can see how you did!
Have fun!
1. It's time to get your very own puppy! What factors matter the most?
*
Genetics! Genes are fixed, and determine the adult dog’s temperament.
Environment! It's all in how you raise them!
Both! Adult behaviour and personality are largely a function of the interplay between genetics and environment.
Neither! It's a crapshoot and you get what you get.
*
Indicates required field
2. Do not take your puppy out of the house until he has completed all of his shots. The risk of disease is just too great!
*
True
False
3. Your puppy is occasionally fearful of new dogs, people or things. You know this because he pulls away, freezes in place, or starts to panic. What should you do?
*
Carry the puppy to the thing they are afraid of.
Bring the thing the puppy is afraid of towards the puppy.
Move a little further away. Allow the puppy to approach when they are ready.
Fear in puppies is not normal! It's time to call a trainer and get help.
4. Your young puppy mouths you - a lot! Indeed, your puppy has put holes in your skin and torn your clothing! Is this behaviour a sign of aggression?
*
Yes, that is worrisome. Normal puppies mouth very gently and do not hurt their owners.
No, puppy mouthing is not a sign of aggression. They simply have sharp puppy teeth and haven't learned much about how to be gentle with their mouths!
5. When should you start training your puppy?
*
As soon as he comes home!
At six months of age.
When you first start noticing behaviour you don't like.
6. What should you do when your puppy mouths you?
*
Redirect her to a toy.
Give her a nap - she's tired.
Exercise her or give her an enrichment activity. She's bored.
Any of the above may be fine; it depends on why she's mouthing you.
7. What is one great way to introduce my puppy to my unsure adult dog?
*
Just put them together! Dogs love puppies and they'll work it out.
Feed them out of the same bowl. They will quickly learn they are siblings.
Put the adult dog on a tight leash so he can't hurt the puppy and let the puppy approach.
Allow them to meet on a parallel walk. That way they can get to know each other without pressure and away from home.
8. If you are approaching an on-leash dog or puppy and your puppy is off leash, you should leash your puppy as well.
*
True
False
9. What is a good way to puppy proof yur house before the new arrival shows up?
*
Crawl around on your hands and knees at puppy level and see what there is to see! Now secure electrical cords, pick up objects, etc.
Invest in a couple of baby gates and block off sensitive areas.
Both of the above.
Don't worry about it. Puppies just know what belongs to them and what belongs to you.
10. What's a simple way to prevent food guarding from starting?
*
After giving the puppy their food, frequently walk by and drop extra special treats in the bowl.
After giving the puppy their food, pet them while they eat.
After giving the puppy their food, reach your hand in the bowl so they understand that you can take it back at any time.
11. How many puppy pictures can you post on Facebook?
*
One a day
One a week
