Scent work is for all dogs!

No longer the preserve of working dogs, now pet dogs can learn scent work for fun and for sport using the same methods as real world detection dogs.

Benefits of scent work

  • Requires a lot of brain power and is terrific mental stimulation as dogs problem solve and work through challenges.
  • Taps into your dog's natural abilities and instincts: to sniff and to hunt.
  • Builds confidence and new skills.
  • Feels good to dogs!
  • Dogs of all breeds, ages, and sizes can participate.
  • Dogs who are shy, reactive, and nervous benefit from structured, positive, fun exposure to new environments and learning opportunities.
  • Improves our communication with and understanding of our dogs. We can never experience the world of scent the way our dogs do, but we can become part of that world as their scent work partners.
  • Scent work classes are full of laughter and fun and camaraderie as we cheer for each dog and handler.

Watch Maggie and her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Tory search for wintergreen (nosework)
and search for a hidden person (mantrailing).
