LIFE SKILLS! You and your dog will learn the skills you need for a lifetime of successful learning and cooperation. You will learn the purpose and mechanics of using a marker (such as a clicker) and to sharpen your observation skills as you notice and understand your dog's body language and behaviour. You will also learn how to shape and capture behaviours and to add cues. Your dog will learn to give his attention to you, offer behaviours, and respond to a cue. She will also learn the important skills of targeting and exercising self-control. Throughout the course, you and your dog will build on these important life skills as you teach your dog the following behaviours: capturing and shaping games, down and sit, mine/take it, name game, polite walking, recall, settle, touch, and wait.
The course is six one hour sessions. During the first orientation session you attend without your dog. We'll discuss some of the main concepts we'll be implementing during the course such as shaping behaviour, adding a cue, and cooperative care. We'll play some fun shaping games and you'll get the chance to practice using a clicker. Clickers are supplied.
