We work "under threshold" so that the dog can learn. That means working at a distance and an intensity where the dog is comfortable and feels safe.
We set the dog up for success by arranging the environment so that the dog is empowered to choose the behaviours we want (e.g. looking away or looking at you, moving on) instead of the behaviours we don't want (e.g. barking, lunging).
We implement management strategies so that the dog is not practising stressful and undesirable behaviours while we work on changing the dog's emotional response to triggers.
We look at the dog as a whole to understand and meet the dog's needs. We add enrichment, choice, and control wherever we can to reduce stress and build confidence and optimism.
