- Give more space, i.e. don't crowd your dog.
- Stand with your toes and your shoulders oriented towards your dog so that you are following them.

- Step in towards the dog
- Overtake the dog
- Face the dog squarely as opposed to angling our body
- Lean over our dog, especially at the start line
- Stand in the vicinity of where the dog is trying to search
