Fear, aggression, reactivity

Are you struggling with your dog's behaviour?

We can help.

Dogs may experience challenges in daily life that impact their quality of life, and yours. The drivers behind reactivity and aggression can include fear; excitement that tips into frustration; breed-based factors such as guarding behaviours in certain breeds; or the behaviour can simply be chase or prey drive based.

When your dog is fearful or reactive, or responds aggressively in certain situations, it is stressful for everyone. It can affect so many areas of your life and feel impossible to go for walks or have visitors to your home. When you are living with such a difficult problem, it can cause big feelings and it is hard to see a way forward.

We're here to help.
We can help your dog learn that the world is not such a scary or difficult place.  We can help nurture within your dog a sense of safety and curiosity about the world.  We can help your dog learn a new way of acting in the world and develop new habits around people and other dogs. We can help your dog gain new skills to navigate the world with confidence and optimism.

We can help with:

  • Fear - including fear of handling, and fear of people, other dogs
  • Frustration-based reactivity
  • Leash reactivity
  • Resource guarding (possessive behaviour)
  • Conflict between dogs in the home
  • Aggression towards people, dogs, other animals

How it works

We start with an initial consultation where I will take a history and learn more about your dog's behaviour and experience.  I'll make  some initial recommendations and we can start right away to work on the issue during this initial consult.  Depending on your dog's triggers, I might recommend the initial consult take place virtually so that we can plan how your dog can safely meet me. I will then make a recommendation for how to achieve your long term goals and number of sessions required.

Fear, aggression, reactivity initial consult 1.5 hours @ $110
Save with a discounted package that includes the initial consult:
Three sessions @ $250
Five sessions @ $375

How we work

We work under threshold so that your  dog can learn. That means working at a distance and an intensity where your dog is comfortable and feels safe.

We set your dog up for success by arranging the environment so that your dog is empowered to choose the behaviours we want (e.g. looking at you, looking away, moving on, scenting/searching) instead of the behaviours we don't want (e.g. barking, lunging).

We implement management strategies so that your dog is not practicing stressful and undesirable behaviours while we work on changing your dog's emotional response to triggers.

We look at your dog as a whole to understand and meet your dog's needs. We add enrichment, choice, and control wherever we can to reduce stress and build confidence and optimism.
